BIO
Callum Mitchell is an award-winning writer from West Cornwall.
His first work for radio, Solomon Browne, received a commendation for Best Original Single Drama at the BBC Audio Drama Awards 2023, and was selected as BBC Radio 4’s Drama of the Week. His 2023 short story, Greetings From Sunny Cornwall, part of the Radio 4 series Coastlines, is currently being developed into a feature film with Spike Productions & Screen Cornwall.
Callum was the recipient of the Nick Darke Talent Award 2020, and selected for the BBC Writersroom Cornish Voices programme 2021. Salvage, a short film written by Callum, premiered at Edinburgh Short Film Festival 2024, produced by BFI Network and Studio Erma. His new short, Pen Mari, directed by Sion Marshall-Waters and produced by BFI Network and Bosena, wrapped filming December 2024.
Callum has multiple projects in development across TV, radio, film and theatre, including horror series Far West with Objective Fiction, co-created with old friend, John Kerrison. Alongside his work as a writer, Callum was Assistant Director on Mark Jenkin’s BAFTA-winning Bait, as well as the films Bronco’s House, Hard Cracked The Wind and Enys Men.
Callum grew up in the fishing village of Newlyn, where he now lives with his wife and children.
